Closing out 2017 staying Keto strong and looking forward to what lies ahead in 2018 for us as we journey on to our well being!
The Sweetner Thing
The sweetner treasure hunt is something for everyone to search out. What affects one person may not affect another. The Keto sweetners that don’t affect my blood sugar usually leave a really bad after taste so I use them sparingly. I have tried the Swerve, Pyure, Stevia and the Monk Fruit. Bleh! I don’t make desserts often and when I do it is for a family get together or something special and then I use my Splenda. When I make my magic fatty coffee, I do use a couple of packs of Sweet and Low, but even then, I don’t have them all the time.
Watch the Nuts!
I love nuts and I got into a bad habit after our move of eating the mixed nuts. I knew my walnuts were fine and all was well. One day I was checking out the carbs on my mixed nuts and I had a rude awakening. My blood sugars were hanging around 100 which was high for me. The one little dish of nuts I was eating had all my carbs right there. Argh! Also, I started feeling some acid reflux which probably came from the oils that the nuts were roasted in. So, I went back to eating my plain walnuts for my treat after my meal and kept my macros in the sweet spot.
More to Go!
I find myself having to do a reality check at times and get back into the routine of using my Fitness Pal to track my intake. It is easy to get lax and doing this keeps me intentional about what I am eating. I still have another 50 pounds to lose, so sticking to my macros is important to see it happen.
Getting in My 10,000 Steps!
I have had issues with being out of alignment since the move also. I was doing great before we sold the house, while I was walking on my treadmill. Getting back to knowing what works for me and sticking with it has to happen. So, I am back to my three miles on Bessie the treadmill. Want to get my 10,000 steps in and I need to find my Fitbit. I know I unpacked it but can’t remember where I put it. Hmmm? Will have to challenge my Sister, Cathy, when I do find it! Get ready Sis!
The Disappearing Act Continues!
When I was putting on my makeup the other day, I had another “Aha” moment I was reminded of that I needed to share. Before Leon and I started eating Keto, I had little tumors on my eye lids. I went to the doctor back in 2008 and had them removed which was very painful. And…they came back! I didn’t realize it until last summer, but the little buggars had disappeared! As I was researching them, they are actually little fatty tumors that are caused by cholesterol. This cholesterol is not from eating a high fat diet, but from the crappy carbs we eat.
The little fatty tumors I had are called Xanthomas. The article I am attaching says that diabetics are prone to this. Yep! I agree! Once we got the cholesterol down by cutting our carbs and eating good fat, they disappeared.
Here’s the link. There are others, but this was simple.
If you have not checked out Dr. Eric Berg lately on Youtube, I would highly encourage you to do so. He has some great educational videos on going Keto and also doing intermittent fasting (IF) for those who are Type 2 Diabetics or those who are trying to lose weight.
I have a bunch of info that I have saved, but have not had time to go through to glean for sharing. Hopefully in the next week, that will happen. I like to apply it to my own life before I start sharing. 😊
Until next time I am still doing Keto and I am still loving it!
I pray you have a glorious and God-filled 2018! May you find more of Him as you experience His goodness and His glory!
Please note! I am not giving any medical advice, but only sharing what I have experienced on my personal journey to wellness. Check out my links page for websites, books, and videos that are posted for educating yourself on reversing diabetes and the ailments that come with it. These are links, books and videos that I personally glean from often. I am always trying to educate myself on being healthy. Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food!
