In the last week my blood sugar has been up...again. Then today I was up two pounds from yesterday! Bleh!
I have to see the numbers to see where I am at and when the blood glucose goes up and the weight goes up, I am not a happy camper. What this is telling me is that I am not doing Keto right. I know it works when I stick to the plan. My friend, Rena, found this lady on FB and Youtube that has lost 95 lbs. in the last three years. She has become a coach and she shares her journey. Her name is Casey Durango and you can find her at this link on Facebook.
Also, if you are not on Facebook you can find her at:
Whenever I hit a bump in the road, I start digging to see what I am doing wrong. Most of the time I know what I am doing wrong...I just need to face reality. Reading, listening and watching other keto-ers helps me get that fresh perspective and wakes me up out of my denial. I had some "ah ha" moments the last couple of days.
I have gotten lazy and not tracked my food intake on My Fitness Pal or registered my blood glucose. Out of sight out of mind...no accountability and ignoring the truth. Hence, I was once again overeating cheese and nuts. I was making keto desserts but overeating portions and I was drinking diet sodas. It all shows up on my glucose monitor.
As I watched one of Casey's videos this morning, I realized I have to stay away from the cheese and nuts. They are a snare for me. I can have them sparingly, but not as part of or in place of other protein. Another thing I realized is that I am still trying to get in all the fat (double my protein). Casey shared that if we want to lose fat, we need to let our body burn fat. When I am striving to get in 100 grams of fat, my body needs to burn its own fat first and that extra fat slows it all down. Which means I don't need to push to get in the Bullet Proof Coffee. Just adding butter to my lean meats or veggies and having my fatty dressing on my salads is plenty.
I am pretty sure I have probably even been overeating my salads. So once again, I must be intentional about my portions. Weighing and measuring has to happen so I can track and have a visual for what I am really doing. I am going to stay off the nuts and dairy for three days and then test my ketones with my Ketonix and see how I am doing.
I had to dig for my Ketonix. Hubby found it for me...thought I had packed it. I have not checked my ketosis for months so I charged my Ketonix up and tested and I am in the green so I am still in ketosis, but I would like to see my numbers up in the upper 60s or low 70s. So along with keeping tabs on my weight and my blood sugar, I am adding my Ketonix back in also.
I heard a man who has been doing Keto for 22 years share his testimony yesterday in the Completely Keto group. One thing he said that stood out to me was that he would have times of getting hot and his body temperature rising. That means the body is burning fat. Hallelujah! I just thought I was having hot flashes all this time.
Thought I would check my blood pressure and it was great. No meds! This was the average. Our machine takes three readings and gives an average.
Until next time! Mimi has gone Keto and is loving it! No turning back!
